Yann Bertrand 'Oh!...' 2023 Beaujolais, France

Yann Bertrand 'Oh!...' 2023 Beaujolais, France

Gamay

Beaujolais, France

Yann Bertrand is the son of a vigneron in the Beaujolais town of Fleurie, but wasn’t interested in winemaking until he became immersed in the natural wine scene of the French Alps. Eventually, he found himself learning how to make wine from Beajolais legends like Jean Foillard and Yvonn Metras. Some of his wines are made with purchased fruit, but Yann holds fast to organic and biodynamic winemaking principles, and is highly selective with these grapes (even picks them himself). The wines are fermented in concrete, carbonic, and whole cluster. No sulfur is used at any point in the winemaking process.

A retired vigneron in Fleurie offered to rent Yann this parcel after tasting his wines at the local café in the town center (he was quite impressed). The vigneron told Yann that the wines reminded him of the bottles he drank when he was a young winemaker in Fleurie, and wanted Yann to continue the tradition of this type of winemaking. This old vine parcel officially is classified as Beaujolais appellation, but lies just across the path from Fleurie designated vineyards. Like everything at the domaine, this wine is naturally vinified without any added yeast or SO2. Aged 2/3 concrete tanks, 1/3 used barrels. 400 cases produced.
