Since the turn of the century, Massimo Marchiori and Antonella Gerosa have played a crucial role in the indigenous varietal renaissance (and natural wine movement) of Penedes, Spain. So, it might come as a surprise to learn that they are both born and raised in Italy. After settling in the historic Catalan region, the couple began to seek out old vines and vineyards that had fallen out of fashion, or often, into disrepair. The SM is comprised of 100% Sumoll, a nearly extinct red grape that is almost never vinified on its own. The grapes are partially destemmed and fermented on their skins for three days in stainless steel. The result is an intensely fresh wine of great depth and savor.
