Maria & Sepp Muster Sauvignon 'Vom Opok' 2023 Styria, Austria

Regular price $39.97

Style 😋: Textured and electric. Aromas of lime blossom, wet stones, and green herbs lead into a savory, saline palate with citrus oil, white peach, and crushed oyster shell. A Sauvignon Blanc that’s earthy, mineral-driven, and refreshingly far from typical.

Producer: Maria & Sepp Muster

Grape 🍇: 100% Sauvignon Blanc

Place 🌎: Styria (Steiermark), Austria

Story 📖: Maria and Sepp Muster are among the original trailblazers of Austria’s natural wine movement, farming their steep vineyards biodynamically in the Südsteiermark since the early 2000s. Their work is deeply rooted in the land and defined by “Opok”—a dense clay-limestone soil that gives their wines incredible structure, salinity, and life. The Musters are known for wines of depth, purity, and soulful energy.

Vom Opok is fermented with native yeasts in large 2400-liter oval wooden casks, then aged for about 20 months in big neutral barrels. It’s bottled without fining or filtration, and no sulfur is added. A wild, alive expression of Sauvignon Blanc that goes far beyond the varietal’s usual tropes—serious, savory, and built to linger.

Pairing 🍽: Grilled halibut with herbed butter and shaved fennel salad.
