Ciro Picariello 'Fiano di Avellino' 2023 Campania, Italy
Taste 😋: Medium bodied with crisp acidity. This has complex characteristics of white peaches and lemons with almond skin and intense minerality. It benefits from some air, and age!
Producer: Ciro Picariello
Grape 🍇: Fiano
Place 🌎: Campania, Italy
Story 📖: Ciro and his wife established their winery in 1997, though they didn’t release their first vintage under their label until 2004. Nestled in the high-elevation vineyards of Campania, their 12 hectares are the source of meticulously crafted wines. Harvesting Fiano as late as October—uncommonly late for white wines—allows for optimal ripeness. The hand-picked grapes are gently pressed, with only the finest first press fraction reserved for their DOCG Fiano.
Picariello’s Fiano di Avellino is a stunning white wine, showcasing a textured, phenolic profile with vibrant minerality drawn from the region’s volcanic soils. While approachable and delicious upon release, this wine is also built to age gracefully, developing even more complexity over 10-15 years. In top vintages, Ciro holds back bottles for later release, offering a glimpse into the wine’s aging potential.
