Andi Weigand Silvaner 2023 Franken, Germany

Andi Weigand Silvaner 2023 Franken, Germany

Style 😋: Dry and expressive white with medium body and savory depth. Opens with aromas of green apple, lemon peel, and crushed herbs, leading to a layered palate of orchard fruit, citrus oil, and salty minerality. Lees aging adds gentle texture and lift.

Grape 🍇: Silvaner

Place 🌎: Iphöfer Kronsberg, Franken, Germany

Producer: Andi Weigand

Story 📖: Andi Weigand is part of a new generation transforming Franken’s wine culture from the inside out. After taking over winemaking from his father in 2015, Andi committed fully to organic and natural practices by 2018, with the full support of his dad. Working side by side, the two now produce soulful wines from old vines on the Iphöfer Kronsberg slope. Andi's cellar is equipped with a vintage 80-year-old basket press and large neutral barrels that allow the wines to evolve gently and naturally.

This Silvaner comes from over 50-year-old vines rooted in Keuper soil, a mix of marl and limestone that brings depth and clarity. The juice is pressed directly and fermented spontaneously in 1250 liter oak barrels, then left on the full lees for 10 months. Bottled unfined, unfiltered, and without sulfur, it is a tribute to the elegance and substance Silvaner can deliver when given patience and care.

Pairing 🍽: Grilled white asparagus with miso brown butter and crispy shallots
