Andi Weigand 'Amphora White' 2022 Franken, Germany
Andi Weigand 'Amphora White' 2022 Franken, Germany
Style 😋: Wonderfully drinkable, light yet layered. A traminer-like nose of roses and apricots opens into flavors of cantaloupe, Meyer lemon, and citrus peel. Balanced tannins and acidity carry the wine into a long, floral finish that just keeps going.
Producer: Andi Weigand
Grape 🍇: Müller-Thurgau & Bacchus
Place 🌎: Franken, Germany
Story 📖: Based in the village of Iphofen in northern Bavaria, Andi Weigand is part of the new guard of natural winemakers in Franken. He farms his family’s old vines organically, ferments with native yeasts, and works completely without additions—no sulfur, no fining, no filtration—making wines that are alive, expressive, and wildly singular.
Amphora White is a meditative skin-contact white made by fermenting whole bunch Müller-Thurgau and Bacchus for 9 months in Tava clay amphorae. After a slow press on an old basket press, the wine is bottled without intervention. Floral, lifted, and full of texture, it’s a wine for orange wine lovers who value nuance over noise.
Pairing 🍽: Crispy-skinned roast chicken with apricot and rosemary glaze.
