Grape π: Field Blend of local red and white varieties
Style π: A vibrant and unique field blend. Aromas of wild strawberries, blood orange, and damp earth lead to a palate that is simultaneously juicy, savory, and textured. Tannins are feather light, and a bright acidity carries flavors of sour cherry and wet stone to a clean, mineral finish.
Details π: Sourced from an ancient, rehabilitated vineyard. The grapes were hand harvested, destemmed, and co-fermented on their skins in open top vessels. During the 20 day maceration, the skins were gradually removed, resulting in a lighter color and texture. The wine was then pressed to used barrels to age, and was bottled without fining, filtration, or any added sulfur.
Story π: La Perdida ("The Lost") is the visionary project of Nacho Gonzalez, a biologist turned winemaker in Valdeorras. He seeks out and revitalizes abandoned, remote "island" vineyards, farming them organically with biodynamic principles. A staunch natural winemaker, he works primarily with traditional field blends of Palomino and Garnacha Tintorera, ferments with native yeasts, and ages his wines in clay tinajas and old barrels without ever adding sulfur. He is a celebrated figure in the natural wine world, known for crafting wines that are profound expressions of a forgotten Galician terroir.
